Forest certification
Pioneering work that set a benchmark
Klabin is a pioneer in the certification of its processes and products: it was the first company in the sector in the Southern Hemisphere to receive Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification (FSC – C022516) for its forest areas, demonstrating the origin of its raw materials as early as 1998. In 2025, it became the first company in the world to certify non-timber forest products, including certified honey in Santa Catarina. These certifications can be viewed on Klabin’s website.
One hundred percent of the wood used by the Company comes from areas certified or controlled in accordance with FSC® and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) standards (PEFC/28-22-15) (PEFC/28-22-17), demonstrating compliance with responsible forest management requirements. Of Klabin’s 991,000 hectares, 744,026.92 hectares are certified and are located across the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
In 2025, forest management audits began to be conducted based on the new FSC® standard, which establishes stricter requirements and presents new challenges for the forestry sector. The Company’s compliance in these audits demonstrates continuous improvement in the quality of its operational processes, adherence to applicable legislation and the strengthening of its responsibility across the environmental, social and economic pillars of forest management.
Third-party wood traceability
Klabin’s commitment to wood traceability extends throughout the supply chain. For the acquisition of third-party raw materials, the Company follows control and verification criteria at various stage of the supply process.
These controls include due diligence processes that assess aspects related to, environmental and legal compliance, and the social impacts of partner properties. This approach aims to demonstrate the responsible sourcing of wood, mitigate social and environmental risks, and promote practices aligned with the sustainability principles adopted by the Company.
The Company has a Wood Supplier Certification Program, offering specialized consulting services to local producers interested in obtaining forest management certification. In 2025, the initiative achieved the following highlights:

Participants in the Plante com a Klabin (Plant with Klabin) Program, which invites local producers to cultivate pine and/or eucalyptus in a manner integrated with the existing activities carried out on their properties, are also encouraged to take part in forest certification initiatives, such as the Klabin Transforma Matas Legais (Klabin Forest Compliance) Program and the Small Producers Certification Program.
Habitat conservation
Currently, 41% of Klabin’s forest area is dedicated to conservation and biodiversity maintenance. In addition to areas protected by law—Permanent Preservation Areas and legally mandated minimum areas of native habitat—this percentage includes five private nature reserves and 30 High Conservation Value Areas (HCVAs).
In 2025, a new reserve was officially established: the Samuel Klabin Private Nature Reserve. Located in Imbaú, Paraná, it covers 168.90 hectares of Atlantic Forest and is home to 267 flora species, seven of which are threatened with extinction, as well as 141 species of fauna, including birds, mammals, amphibians and one reptile species.

In August 2024, Klabin obtained a preliminary injunction suspending the effects of two notices of violation issued by IBAMA involving Company areas located in Coxilha Rica, in the state of Santa Catarina. The Company operates in accordance with the Santa Catarina Environmental Code, which has already been declared constitutional by the Santa Catarina State Court of Justice (TJSC) and upheld by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in a final and binding decision, while the notices of violation were based on an interpretation of the Atlantic Forest Law regarding “high-altitude grasslands.”
The annulment action filed by Klabin resulted in the suspension of the effects of the notices of violation. However, IBAMA’s appeal has not yet been ruled on, as the STF, within the scope of Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (ADI) 7811, ordered the suspension of all proceedings discussing the constitutionality of the Environmental Code of the State of Santa Catarina.
